Couldn't disagree more ...

I cannot think of a genre that has been more derivative, less inventive and more similar than AOR. I'm not a great pop addict but listen to the recent R&B sounds with that distinctive girl band harmony that's everywhere now, that's new. Listen to Britney Spears' first single, listen to that bass driven pop riff, that's a new sound. Sure there's lots of boybands cranking out third rate slush that could be from any year since 1965 but there's lots of new stuff out there. What's half this board waiting for ... a new f!&*ing Journey album. Which genre's doing its bit to keep things fresh? I'm not trying to persuade you to like Britney instead of Journey (though I can't say I'd disagree if you did) but at the end of the day when one tries to rationalise ones thoughts on music into a "scientific" theory of what's groundbreaking .. it doesn't stand up. Everyone's love for the music of their choice is wrapped up in a plethora of factors like personal taste, background, music from the era of your youth, preferred fashions, peer pressure at a certain age etc etc. That's all. PS : "Original Prankster" reminds me heavily of a track off the second Rex album.
