Don't believe the hype!

I'm with you. There is so much mediocricy, redundancy and straight up shite out there, you need thigh high boots to wade thru the crapola and sort it all out. The only way to be sure you're not spending money on stuff that sucks/is not your cup o'tea is to not believe the biased fanboy/girl hype and too-good-to-be-true reviews and sample before you buy if at all possible (not that hard to do with the Net,, Napster, Andrew's soundbytes, etc.).

As for 80's musicians trying to sound 90's - that's fine as long as the quality of the songs doesn't suffer. Musicians, just like all of us (well, most of us...), are exposed to new things all the time and when something makes an impression it tends to show up down the line in one form or another. It's just the natural evolution of things. I'd rather hear someone like Kip Winger doing a Peter Gabriel-type trip than suffer thru crap like Firehouse that was painful to sit thru even back then let alone now.

P.S.: One dude who's doing a cool modern thing is Jeff Pilson with Underground Moon. Check out . Too bad he is 'cursed' with the Dokken tag or he might have a shot at a major deal.
