While I agree that the genre hasn't died out, it will never be as popular as it was back in the late 80s. Mainly for the mere fact that kids today do not want to listen to the same type of music that their parents did. That is a fact of life. 60's rock was different from the 50's, 70's differerent from the 60's, 80's different from the 70's, etc...Rock music will continue to evolve. Sure there will be some resurgence here and there, but I don't expect to see melodic rock (as we know it) to dominate the charts again.

Now is that a bad thing? Not one bit in my opinion! When a genre becomes popular, there is more of a push by the recording industry to make everyone sound like what is popular at the moment, even though the record companies don't realize that the moment has passed already.

We just need to continue to support the music.
