The thing is is didn't always use to be that way with Our Price. Yes, it's always been a mainstream retailer but back in the day, '86 when rock WAS the mainstream we had shitloads of rock music in the stores and my store at the time was selling import copies of the DRIVE SHE SAID debut...on vinyl!! Now it's no longer a music store, just a store that happens to sell some music amongst other things, which is one of the reasons I left. I didn't change, the job did. So now I'm just in it for the money...like they are!

The most annoying thing though is this stranglehold that the chart return stores have on the UK charts and, therefore, what sells. This is an important difference between us and the US. At least requesting your favourite artists on radio stations does have an affect on the charts there. (How does that work by the way? Surely it's not ALL radio stations?) Here RADIO 1 will only play what they WANT to play and if you're trying to plug a new band as member of the public (like I am with TSAR) they just ignore you.

It's all very frustrating. But it can be done by bypassing Radio 1 all together as sales of EVA CASSIDY's 'Songbird' have just proved.

There is life beyond the 'bargain bin' for Journey in the UK Stephen. It's just up to Sony to decide that.
