Now you'll get me started and I may struggle to stop. Aviary is everything an album should be. It has great and memorable songs, awesome vocals (both lead and harmony) and fine ensemble playing. For me it gets the mix of "commercial" and "progressive" music absolutely right. It is both catchy enough to be enjoyable at first and after many repeated listens but it's got sufficient depth to achieve longevity. I love each and every song on the album and if Carl's reply indicates he prefers their more "progressive" unreleased stuff, well .. not for me. I think the record company helped mould Brad's original vision into the very special thing it is. As for Valensia, well yes and no. There are similarities in both the songwriting and the vocals but don't expect an album you would believe was Valensia. Aviary weren't influenced by Duran Duran, Kate Bush etc so there are slants to Valensia, a sort of pop playfulness, that you won't hear in Aviary ....
