Old LPs I thought were crap....

or at least not that good but a recent reappraisal has rescued them from the bin.

Fireworks - Live. I'm sure you told me this already Eric, but this is good. That means only their debut is to be avoided, although the "Up" album is too lightweight for me. Although "Live" is not as pompy it's certainly in the same style as their best, IMPO, "Shatter the Darkness". Marty McCall had a good voice and an attractive writing style with a way of phrasing chords that was pretty much his own. "Sightseeing at Night" is also worthwhile, although again not up to StD.

Drama - Scene from a Distance. I don't know why I had SUCH a downer on this one. Not, in all honesty, remarkable, but worthwhile and got more than enough to set it apart from generic stuff. I think it must have been my thing against women singers that made me mark it down so.

Bliss Band - Dinner with Raoul. Steely Dan's little brother. I must just be getting more "mature" tastes now - don't know why I thought this was bad first time round.

Chilliwack - Wanna be a Star. Now I know what's happening. My tastes are definitely more skewed towards the quirky than they used to be. Hair metal and AOR are just making me barf, this sort of stuff has something endearing in its "different" style.

Others that were expected to go in to the bin but didn't were Crimson Tide, arrogance "Suddenly", The Babys "bootleg" album on NEMS, Pierce Arrow (featuring Bobby Chouinard, Doug Lubahn etc, Sunblind Lion (calm down Eric), Gary Pivate's "Secret Love", Todd Sharp, Pseudo Echo's "Race", Willie Dee. Delta (featuring Michael McDonald's sister Maureen who .. coincidentally. . did b vox on the Bliss Band LP, Choice Cuts etc etc. Not all earth-shattering - just not all as bad as I remembered. Anybody taking me on in this trip down (failing) memory lane????
