Now, the thing is, sometimes a word as multiple but related meanings. The word song can mean a musical composition which is sung and has words. But it is also used more widely. And my dictionary, in addiction to the definitions that concentrate on vocals and words, also gives "a musical sound like singing [the song of a lark].

One thought, does a song cease to be a song if you play it on an instrument, rather than singing it? I don't think so.

I thing song is used a lot to include instrumentals because "musical composition" is too cumbersome. And instrumental only works if you only are talking about instrumentals, and not a body of work that also includes stuff with vocals. So, with artists that mostly do stuff with vocals, I think it's natural to use "songs" to include all their stuff, not just the stuff with vocals.

Of course, when talking CDs, the word tracks is sometimes used. :-)

In my opinion, both sides of this little debate are correct. :-)
