One for MrPomp this really.
I agree that Diamond head did that stuff well but the best I've ever heard have to be THE TEA PARTY. An incredibly underated band. Jeff Martin is a total genius and could really teach Page and Plant a thing or two about the direction they SHOULD have gone in a couple of years back. Mind you, Jeff can still SING which is one advantage. (I can almost FEEL the hatemail coming in my direction :))

If you haven't heard them try any of the last three albums which all have examples of that culture clash sound, particularly 'Transmission' where they introduce a kinda NINE INCH NAILS element. Awesome, and currently working on their next album which sounds like it will carry on in the same vein.
