Hello-

I believe Jason never felt as though he was a legitimate member of Metallica anyway. He was basically a salaried musician with very little say in any decision. It was rummored that he was going to leave years ago.

I feel confident that he left for the following reasons:

1. Musical direction. They have been mellowing out more and more on each album. Jason probably wants the band to stay heavy. Not get more commerical.
2. Lars' ego. For the past few years Lars has been prancing around at all the award shows with sun glasses on. He feels he is a real "rock star".
3. Napster. The whole suing Napster thing hurt Metallica's credibility. Jason probably felt Lars went over board.
4. Lack of say in the bands decisions and direction.

I would really like to know why he is quitting, i used to love Metallica but i went back to my melodic roots around '98. The news today really shocked me as it would of any metalfan!

I got Hanoi Rocks' 2 CD best of today "Decadent Dangerous Delicious" for under a five quid! :)
