I happen to disagree with you, Kevin. Survivor's "Vital Signs", in my book, is one of only a handful of perfect AOR albums.

oh well.....to each his own. When Seconds Count and Premonition are the 2 best Survivor albums for me. Vital Signs is one of my least fav---more on that below.

Right up there with (chronologically) Boston's debut, New England's "Explorer Suite", Touch's self-titled, Journey's "Escape", John Parr's debut, Prophet's self-titled, Alias "Alias", The Storm's "Eye of the Storm" and Hugo's first one.

haven't heard all of those...but I would say the Alias cd is a bit over-rated also. There are some very good songs on it, no doubt....but other than an out-of-this-world talent in Freddy Curci, I just don't the songs are that special overall.

as for the others.....Journey's Escape? yes...definitely. Frontiers running REALLY close in original format (Ask the Lonely and Only the Young in place of the other 2)
most...haven't heard
The Storm's Eye of the Storm.......of course. On par with Dare's debut as maybe one of the best ever as far as AOR goes.
Hugo S/T.......hmm....bordering on it. Comes REALLY close with only one or two songs spoiling it. Easily the best since the 2nd Storm cd though.

a few I would add...
Survivor - Premonition, When Seconds Count
Dare - Out of the Silence
Signal - Loud and Clear

"Popular Girl"- filler? I can't get with that. Oh well, we all have our opinions...

well...part of that is me and my usual dislike for pop music. And that song is about as "un-emotional blase pop" as you can get and it's very annoying to me. Vital Signs is also the softest, IMO, album Survivor ever made. They did pure radio pop fairly good....but I never felt they did it nearly as good as some of the other artists who really excelled at that type of music.
