My sister and her friends were groupies of the band when they played seedy dives across Northern MD and southern PA and were called Apples or something like that. Road apples was more like it. I saw them play at Shippensburg about three times and the shows were all massive sellouts. Apparently young, dumb, full of come drunken college students and their music mix real well. It worked well for me, anyway. You are dead on right about the Cheap Trick thing. 98 Rock out of Baltimore, DC101 out of DC, WTPA FM104 out of Harrisburg, and Starview 92 from York played them all the time so it was impossible to grow up in the area and not like them out of some twisted local loyalty or something. Same thing with Crack the Sky and Greg Kihn - even though he broke nationally rather quickly. We had some horrendously bad quasi-metal band called Headstone Circus from York play at a high school pep rally in 81, and I thought that even they were better than Kix. I still can't believe they landed a deal or made it onto MTV.
