It was definitely "meat & potatoes" American metal (in the vein of Q5, Riot, Savatage, etc.), but that brand of metal holds a special place in my heart. Plus, as has been said, the vocals were very strong. They weren't Queensryche in the songwriting department, but they were solid, IMHO, and some of their tracks were quite strong.
