...If your pawn shops out East are anything like the ones I've encountered in B.C., they can be virtually LOADED with rare gems. See, I think a lot of the stuff in 'em has been there for years, since long before the stuff was all that rare. Here's how I see it: Your typical 30-something year old former hard rock fan has flogged off, over the course of the past 10 years, a big chunk of the stuff that was in his collection. Hard rock no longer interests him the way it did back in '87 when he had hair like Brett Michaels (or even just when he HAD HAIR). He's more interested in getting some cash for the big party at his buddy's house than he is in trying to figure out whether or not the music is actually worth anything. In fact, the thought of some of his stuff being a collector's item might never have crossed his mind. (I know that back in the late '80s and early '90s when I wuz buying lots of Christian MHR I never expected the stuff to become rare/expensive/collectable). And, although he may pawn them initally thinking that he'll go back 'n get 'em in a few weeks, time has a way of slipping by, and pretty soon they're old news. He doesn't even know how many are still left in the store. Plus, they're all mixed in with the 4000 other CDs stacked to the ceiling. At least that's what seems to happen in my neck of the woods. What I can't get over is the fact that nobody else (at least in the small northern towns) seems to scour the shops. It's weird, but in a good way. I just wish that I was able to travel around more often. It's hard to even make a 2-3 hour trek to hit the pawn shops in neighboaring towns when you have a family and all of the commitments that go with it. *Sigh*
