You forgot 1981!!

Hey! You left out 1981. The year that Journey, REO Speedwagon, Styx and Foreigner all hit no.1 with career-defining albums. Add in vital works by Rick Springfield, Loverboy and Billy Squier, and you had one hell of a year!

1990 and 1991? What's that all about? A lot of glam, but AOR/melodic hard rock was passe by then. Night Ranger, Survivor, Journey, Boston, Rick Springfield, Kansas... who wasn't buried under the perma-frost of hair metal back then? And then there was Toto, Styx and REO who released some of their worst material to date in 1990.

In my opinion, the heyday of AOR was between 1981 and 1986, when a bloke like John Parr could hit no. 1 and a mediocre Huey Lewis tune called "Jacob's Ladder" could rise to similar heights. If I had to isolate one year, I would say 1985. Survivor, Night Ranger, Journey, John Parr, Giuffria, Don Henley, Loverboy, Foreigner, Asia, The Cars, Shooting Star, Mr. Mister, Starship, Heart, Bryan Adams, Rick Springfield... all these acts were on the charts back then and it was a good time to be nearby a radio.
