Rest in peace, Zeno Roth.
I had no idea he was ill, either, so this is indeed sad news.
I'm a big fan of the first Zeno album like many others here, it seems. I guess Michael Flexig's vocals were always an acquired taste when it came to this band, but behind him you had the very cool Mr. Roth, whose original songwriting and impressive guitar chops made for a singular mix of Hendrix, classical and eastern influences, AOR and ...well, that worldwide conscious that somehow flowed through his material. Even Ule Ritgen's more straightforward contributions appeared influenced by this, as witnessed by how much more ordinary Fair Warning would sound by comparison, despite really being a continuation of Zeno minus the man himself and Flexig.
Oh, and I still wonder whether there really was a professionally recorded second album fully finished while Flexig was still in the band's line-up? I've posted on this topic previously here
, although no one seemed to know one way or another - oh, well. At least it sounds like Uli Jon Roth has plans to get some of Zeno's final recordings out there, and I'll be curious to hear what they will sound like. Thanks for all the great music, Zeno Roth.
