It's funny you should mention Kid Rock...

I never think about Kid Rock, nor do I have any of his tunes in my collection. I get why some folks like him - the whole southern rap/rock country rebel kinda deal. But I just never gave him much thought.

Two months ago, I was afflicted with the most random malaise.

My mind would go off the rails and start playing the lyrics to Kid Rock's "Cowboy" about once a week on average. In the shower, walking my dog, at work, reaching for apples at the supermarket....Kid would spontaneously intrude on my thoughts:

"Going to head out west,
Something-something about fake breasts,
Start an escort service for all the right reasons,
and set up shop at the top of the Four Seasons..."

It gets to be a mild nuisance, but my mind is a tangled mess like that. A few years ago, it was Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?".

And every time, I'd idly wonder, "What the hell does that line mean, 'start an escort service for all the right reasons'? Is there some deep, altruistic meaning to it that I've missed? Hmm. Is he speaking in code? Is it some southern culture thing, where he's going to be a gentleman to his hookers? Is he referring to some noble form of pimping?
If so, what in the world could he be talking about? What ARE the right reasons?"

The question would swirl around in my head for a bit, then I'd move on to more important things. And so on.

Yesterday, I was taking out the trash, when - rinse & repeat! - "Cowboy" started playing again for the umpteenth time.

And I go, "Ok, f.uck this! I can't ponder this forever! Fine, maybe the cosmos will be satisfied and I'll stop hearing the song in my head if I do something about it! Fiiine!"

I march over to my computer and type into Google:

"meaning of start an escort service right reasons"

Turns out, I was not alone. Someone had actually asked him. Here's Kid's response:

“Aw. That’s just a line. There’s no deep thought process behind it. To get paid. To make money. Isn’t that what everything is the right reason for?”

It’s interesting how little space there is in Kid Rock’s world between the right reasons and the wrong reasons.

Welp, this is the man who wants to be US senator, apparently. After two months of wondering, I feel so unsatisfied. But, you know, serves me right for looking for any meaning, let alone philosophical depth, in the mind of a man who, musical ability or not, is clearly an imbecile.
