Mt knowledge of the 'Back in America' is sketchy (but more than most of the databases and record shops throughout the USA) but you picked up the Kansas connection as if I remember correctly it was co-written (or at least performed with a couple of the blokes from Kansas).
On the subject of the Strangeways albums the two with Terry Brock are IMO the best AOR not produced by Journey. Kerrang in the days before it became a nu metal magazine for teenagers did an AOR poll and I think 'Native Sons' came in second behind 'Escape'. I have a bootleg of them playing live in Germany and they were as good live as on the two albums. The second album is a little less instantly accessible but is just as good and I still play them both all the time. That's why the Sign was such a welcome release as finally the best non-Steve Perry vocalist got the exposure he deserved (albeit within the confiens of the AOR niche we all live in) but then would you really like to hear The Sign mentioned in the same breath as Britney or Creed-cue another 309 posting about the nature of AOR!!!!!!
