What makes an EP/LP

So what exactly makes an EP versus an LP?

I assumed back in the day when vinyl was king, that if a band released an album with less than 8 songs and was under 30 minutes, it was dubbed an EP. An album, however could have 9-10 songs or even less and still be an LP, yet they can time in at less than 35 minutes easy.

The term EP was coined for "extended play" as opposed to a single 45 or a "full play" i.e. LP. So, it appears that this terminology means, and has meant nothing for some time.

What the f**k?!
Does it really mean anything anymore?
