To say that Dare were a cut above other bands is somewhat unusual? I just don't hear that. While they were good, they were not great, and very derivitave of the times. Look at the body of work AOR has presented over the years, then put Dare in the picture. Hardly a blip on the Radar if you ask me.

I guess it's just down to personal taste because I would rank the debut up against practically anything put out there in the world of AOR. Out of the Silence is held up by many people who see something in the Dare sound that was a cut above the average. Sure they had their own sound, but there was something magical about some of the songs. There really isn't anything like "The Raindance", but it still remains one of my all-time favorite songs. Blood From Stone was pretty impressive also--and quite a bit better than it's reputation.

As far as personal opinion goes, I hear the Alias cd mentioned in the "classic" cds all the time and other than a great talent in Freddy Curci and a few very good songs, I find it very average overall.
Same with King Kobra. Mark Free is an incredible talent and they had a few really good songs, but a lot of filler and unforgettable stuff.
Survivor's Vital Signs is also one of those. When it's good, it's REALLY good, but there is about a half an album of so-so songs on there--and one of my least favorites of the Survivor catalogue and pales in comparison with Premonition or When Seconds Count.
