As far concerning melodies and pop music; THATs the most important thing at all. Songs gotta stick in your head no matter what style and should have pop appeal to reach a wider audience. In some way that´s whats has been/is still happening to HIM or Bon Jovi. Both style wouldnt find buyers if not for the pop appeal ( and ...of course the marketing ;-)...).
