New BON JOVI......

...finally got around to buy it and listen to it a few times. I am really impressed, i didnt expect much but i really, really like it......When listening to 2 songs in particular "Whats left of me" and "Old habits die hard" i REALLY got the feeling "ahhh finally bon jovi sounds like bon jovi again.."

Especially the former: if you exchange the country-ish parts with single line notes a la bad name or Edge of a broken heart, what do you get??? exactly , a classic sounding BJ song!!! :)

So far i think thta the first 4 tracks arent bad, but for me the album really takes steam from Amen onwards...... albeit Pictures of you is quite a good song, too.......

All in all this is REALLY good and actually the first time i can say for real this sounds like BJ for me again......Didnt really feel that way, as far as whole albums go, since These days......

These Two Hands?

"These Two Hands"? WTF? I don't have that song. Did they release two versions of this cd, one with extra tracks? The Wal-Mart I picked mine up at only had one 12 song version.

I too am impressed by the disc, but that's only because my expectations were very low. There are more songs on here that I like than "Circle", and if they had left "Amen" and "Fighter" off the disk, it would have been a pretty good 10 song album.

Crush or Have A Nice Day (which I only warmed to over time as I was really hating Bon Jovi for always sounding the same by then) would be the only decent albums they have made since their return.
Lost Highway was good for what it was, but not my cup of tea, as their are genuine country artists doing it better, not just as a cash-in.
The Circle was the start of their decline into Coldplay territory, and this album is just more of the same. But so one-dimensional.
I came at this one with an open mind, which I haven't done with a Bon Jovi album since 2004. I was left disappointed, and in the future will stick to instinctively seeing the Bon Jovi name and expecting something bland to avoid disappointment.
Niv

They were departures, but interesting ones.

The new album is a plodding snoozer. Bland adult contemporary almost. No passion, no teeth, no edge. I don't care if the songs are poppy or slow, or mostly mid-tempo. That's ok. The quality is just not there.

If Rick Springfield can release a barnstormer in his later years, there's no excuse for older artists like Jovi & Bryan Adams to release boring AC albums.

The whiny nature of JBJ's voice never bothered me when they rocked a bit but here that also grates.

Funnily enough with all the BJ discussion around here lately I've been playing the first 4 albums big time in recent weeks (along with Sunstorm's Emotional Fire - a grower- and Trail of Murder which has been on non stop rotation for months). and rediscovering my love of the early BJ material.

Maybe they should re-brand themselves like the Labour party did in the 90's. New Jovi!

I really enjoy listening to the new record when it's on, and I've been spinning it for a while now. Strange thing is, after I've finished listening it's actually quite forgettable. Nothing seems to stick. There's no stand out tracks that are likely to be considered classics in years to come. It's a pleasant enough experience, but totally unremarkable. Army Of One is easily the best, even if it is very Killers Hot Fuss, but I still don't feel it stands toe to toe with their best.

It is a decent album, not great by any means either. I have spun it twice already and really it has not impressed me at all. It will be another Bon Jovi album that will fall to the wayside, and be easily forgotten by summer (for a majority of us).

The problem I am seeing and hearing is a lot of fans want that return to the sound of 7800 F, SWW, NJ... it just isn't going to happen.
Hell, I honestly think the band wants to return to that sound anyways.

The Bon Jovi we knew and loved is history...a memory. Bon Jovi is moving into the 21st century full steam ahead and on their own creative terms. They are literally keeping up with the Jones' in the music genre, and to their credit - they are doing a great job...selling albums, making money, touring like crazy.

They are a totally different Bon Jovi now then when they started and initially reunited back in the 90's.

So, it is accept their changing music style and go with the flow and "try" to get into their newer style....or just walk away and listen to the classics...and be happy.
