Would Kiss of been a bigger band in the 80's if VV stayed with the band? Can you imagine what a blockbuster album Animalize would of been with his songwriting!!! Bruce Kulick's playing is very generic to me. He doesn't have a lot of charisma or personality, but he brought a lot of stability and musical experience to the band. He did a very good job overall, and was not necessarily encouraged to come out of his shell as an artist.

At this stage of their career, KISS had become Stanley & Simmons, although Simmons has lost interest in the band. This had become Stanley's vision and Vinnie needed to musically fit, which he didn't. On the other hand, none of the 80s releases were all that great, IMO, apart from Creatures . . . and Vinnie had a hand or two in the songwriting for that one too.

Turns out, I have no idea . . . and I really don't care either. ;-)

Sure, no doubt ANIMALIZE would have been better with some VV..apparently several VVI Invasion tracks were possibly for said album! Although his guitar playing is far beyond nuts on that record, there are some great songs. It was all about being OTT though, that was the plan..people seem to forget that. Thats the point..and they did exactly that with REVENGE (years after he was fired from the band) and it definately helped! Of all the post ACE records, I love CREATURES, LICK IT UP was excellent. I thought ANIMALIZE was a dip in that run and a little generic rock of the moment. Meanwhile..with 100% intention to be OTT..VVI debut came out and featured some killer songs. To say he has no melody is nonsense! His solo's, sure 90% of the time he's over-shredding, but his song writing is very melodic.

KISS made some ok records that followed ANIMALIZE, but I do think wth VV as a writer, that run if form in 81ish-84 would have continued.
