Bon Jovi - What About Now Thoughts

It leaked. I listened.

Not bad. My expectations are pretty low, to be honest. I thought Bounce was awful, HAND was okay, Lost Highway and The Circle were spotty at best (just my opinions).

WAN is definitely more commercial than The Circle. A lot less on the U2 influences, but heavier on what I would say are Beatle-esque melodies (see The Fighter). Emphasis is back to sing-along choruses and simple song structures. The spiritualness of "Amen" and the Lost Highway-ish "What's Left Of Me" are ones that might be acquired tastes.

The leak is the Japanese version with 5 bonus tracks, but I haven't gotten through them yet. The first 12 tracks make up the proper album and right now, I don't hate it. I know it's not going to sound like classic Bon Jovi or anything like that. However, it's exceeding my expectations on the first listen through.

The deluxe version
is not necessary; on the contrary, IMO, if we
get rid of tracks 5, 12, 14, 15, 16, ending with
11 tracks we get a pretty decent mid tempo opus.
Jon's voice is crystal clear with cool nuances.
There's a U2 feel on some tracks too (3,6).
Because we can should have been moved to track
6 or 7. Nothing new under the sun (except Jon's
voice which is less lazy i guess) but a solid
album...
