Voodoo Circle or Cloning Circle?

Frankly, I'm a bit shocked at the extent they copied WS's 1987. Don't get me wrong, the performances are flawless, in particular David Readman's voice, but really, what's the point? It's one thing paying tribute to a band/record, but pretty much cloning parts and almost entire songs is something else. To me the only song that truly stands on its own is the amazing ballad "Alissa". Great track, why not write an entire album with "original" tunes like that?

Alex's lead tone, at times, is also very Sykes-ish.

It obviously sounds a lot like Whitesnake...but I also hear a bit of Deep Purple and Rainbow (which are branches of the same tree anyway).

David Readman does a great Coverdale- certainly miles better than old Cov can manage these days.

I like it- more than I've liked a Whitesnake album since 1987. As long as the songs aren't ripping off riffs and melodies I don't have a problem with bands doing albums "in the style of". I am a bit surprised they've been as blatant as that, but I'm enjoying it so much I'm not really bothering. Put it this way, I got VC and W.E.T in the same week and the latter isn't getting a look in...

Readman's vocals are OUTSTANDING!! It certainly isn't a 'waste of talent' to produce performances like those on the VC album...it's simply great to hear the vocals sound so good and also to hear some really fabulous guitar work (even if he does occasionally slip into 'over-shred' territory...)

Very enjoyable record, IMHO...
