I'm convinced that either Coverdale doesn't have the hearing left to properly approve, or he just doesn't have the time/interest to review properly. Despite the fact that it's metal music (or almost that), louder is not necessarily better when speaking about sound quality.

Yes, the Dio Deluxe editions sound pretty good by comparison. But take a listen to the Audio Fidelity masters. Even better. The difference is particularly notable on Vinnie Appice's toms and cymbals.

I can't imagine Coverdale saying that end result was great letalone good? The whole shebang sounds dull and mute nothing like the original. The European remasters done some 12 odd years ago on 87 and Slip (the double black book version still own that one too) sounded far better!?

WHY would anyone say yes to such a sound!!!!? So yeah to my ears the DIO remasters sounded great in comparison ;)

On those, the volume is jacked up, and the compression used did reduce dynamics in the sound. They weren't trying to take it back a few years but rather make it sound more modern. Problem is, modern mastering is crap! Honestly, very very few remasters surpass the sound of earlier editions.

Intersting how we hear things differently I guess but certainly better than the recent Whitesnake remasters (the Slip remaster flattened out the sound, almost like they were trying to take it back a few years and remove what is now considered its over-production!? thereby losing all the dynamics and bigness IMO)

Anyways... The Dio remasters sound great by comparison :)

I quite like this album too, but I honestly think it doesn't even come close to the first three with Vivian, let alone the first two that are classics. My all-time favourite Dio album is "The Last In Line". It has the best songs Dio (the band) has ever written.

DE has quite a few fillers. They were attempting to be a little bit more melodic, and it was not always 100 % successful IMHO. I also missed Campbell's playing, I found Goldy a little bit "light" on this album.

I believe Dio has never released a bad record. This said, I feel the albums after TLIL are in places much less inspired. The formula gets a bit old. Same with AC/DC. I mean how many times can you reinvent the wheel? There were some great stuff on all his record, but the first two did not have any fillers IMHO. That's the difference.

DE was without a doubt THE worst sounding record from that period and that was always such a shame cause DreamEvil remains my favorite Dio record also, absolute killer record. I always shake my head in dismay when fans claim only the first 2 or 3 Dio records to be worthy of the overused but very appropriate title of 'classic'!

Cannot wait to get this remaster...

Oh but for the record the previous remasters sound great :)
