Whitesnake again...

I got thinking about the newer Whitesnake material. Just spun Forevermore again this morning with the morning coffee (nice with the new headphones!). These guys are a PRIME example of why rock radio sucks so badly. Tell me there aren't a bunch of great radio tracks waiting for airplay on the last two WS cds! Arrrrrggghhh....T

PS: Just curious...what would be your picks for radio-friendly tracks from Forevermore? Mine would be : Love Will Set You Free, Easier Said Than Done (for the ladies),One Of These Days (way cool vibe),My Evil Ways, and Forevermore. All GREAT stand alone hits for rock radio,IMO. But then..the entire cd is radio friendly,eh?

It never ceases to amaze me what a HUGE percentage of listeners are happy to listen to 'whatever' is on the radio. Whether they then purchase music is the thing but, many happy to grab the double disc of top40 comes years end...

Although a lot of the younger audiences don't buy records anyways so marketing to an older audience would be smart, but unlikely to be the masses either!? Which then begs the question about the IF and the HOW to make it happen, can't say it would be simple or to be fair, affordable if not the success hoped for!?

Either way ya can lead a horse to water right? I do believe while the internet has created many more opportunities, but without first 'hearing' the music Mr Masses won't go looking for it either. So therefore some form of radio streaming etc is required...

Hard one but dig yer enthusiasm and count me on board ;)

And--it's not all melrock, but all different styles. I"m flumoxed that a rabid WS fan wouldn't totally dig those last two cds by them. and as usual--it's easy to say that fans wouldn't be affected (more sales) even if radio played new songs. THere's no proving ground one way or the other--it doesn't exist. Also- Everyone seems to go straight for the 'younger' generation being intersted. They might be (but not likely very many. They have their own music,of course). But many kids like SOME stuff their parents like. Have you noticed all the young retro bands springing up the past few years? It's saying something that the younger set is so heavily influenced by their parents music. It's a testament to how good 'our' music is/was. But even these newer acts that play retro have no chance on radio cuz it ain't there. Classic rock stations are..classic rock formatted. Same ol' same ol' forevermore (no WS pun intended). T

PS: my main point with current melrock and it's lack of exposure is that folks over 35-40 would love to hear alot of what's out there these past 15-20 long years. It's the same style melrock as they always loved. I've turned lots of people on to newer music they never heard of/were unaware of. They always love it and ask how I even know about it all. So...if a station existed (formatted properly of course),they would come--and enjoy.

Radio does not influence music buyers the way it did. So thinking that having your songs on the radio will help shipping units is a thing of the past.

Regardless of the quality of the music, the vast majority of the people want to hear the hits. Period. Ask 100 guys attending a WS gig whether they went for "Here I Go Again" or "Love Will Set You Free", and I guarantee you that 99 are there for HIGA. Now, you can play LWSYF 20 times a day all around the world, and it will never sell as much as HIGA did. Times have changed. People buy less, and buy differently.

I am a huge WS fan, even got a tattoo! I buy everything. But to be honest, I could not list every songs on the last two albums.... I almost never listen to them! I probably spinned them 10 times each, and that was it. So when a huge fan like me does not manage to get into the new songs, can we expect youngsters to get excited by 50 / 60 years old guys rocking out? Not sure.

P.S. This is a general reply, not directed at Terry in particular.

First off Whitesnake here is just one of the many examples of older bands making good new music, so don't use WS as the end all be all. But WS does a good draw on touring so for them there problem is exposure of the new music. What could promote it and cost the label/band nothing? That Metal Show has said they would play the new video but the VH1 won't pay the fee. Well call me crazy, but say WS went in there and the played the entire video or a portion.....wave the play fee!
