I watched your video that you posted though and the vibratto that Michael added to certain notes that are supposed to fall off and his skipping of every single high note (especially the last one one) is enough that you proved my point by posting this. The VH singers go in this order of ranges:

Sammy - Highest
Gary - Below Sammy
David - Below Gary

Sammy can sing anything Dave does and Dave can't sing anything Sammy does. Gary tried to sing Sammy songs, but was nowhere near powerful enough in that high/raspy range that Hagar has. Gary has a naturally cleaner tone than Sammy so it was a real stretch for him to scream his ass off like Sammy does. He is lucky he didn't last too long in VH because it probably would have ruined his voice.

As far as MIchael Sweet in Boston goes, it just didn't work for me. As I said before, I am a Brad Delp freak and I want those songs sang as close to his original perfection as possible. MIchael was not able to do that. He's a great front man, he sang on key, he sang with feeling, he sang with power but the bottom line is that he was not born with the vocal tone that Boston's material requires. Yes those concerts were successful but that doesn't mean that he is interchangeable with Brad Delp. And that is what you are not getting.

Of course his comments are going to be nice.

Only a handful of people have ever gotten along with Tom Scholz for any length of time and I assume that is because they have their heads up his ass so they can be in Boston. I seriously doubt they actually like him. In Stryper, Sweet is the main man and his opinions are golden. In Boston, he had to answer to the man like everyone else does and he was given his parts like an employee.

Not to mention his voice just doesn't have the right tone for the Boston songs. Sure he did a good job by "regular fan" standards. But for me, I am a Brad Delp FREAK and as much as I would have loved for Michael to blow me away doing those parts, he just didn't...

Fran Cosmo is the closest I have heard to hitting Brad Delp's perfect vocal tone and even he is still standing in the shadow.

The Home Depot guy also sounds way closer to Brad's tone than Michael did. Michael used his vibratto too much and he made Boston songs sound like Stryper songs. If it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't want to hear Brad Delp try to pull off Stryper songs either because he just wouldn't be able to get the power behind the notes like Michael does for those songs. They are two completely different types of singers. Brad has angelic vocals and Michael has power vocals...

Michael would sound GREAT singing Dennis DeYoung songs though! They have a very similar tone! Heck, I wish he would join Styx and they could fire that no talent JY and reduce LG down to just a keyboardist so Michael could sing the Dennis songs and play JY's guitar parts better than he ever thought about playing them!!

It seemed obvious that Ed just wasn't up to making any coherent statements for about 5-6 years after VHIII.

I like the unreleased song in that its got a good melody and Cherone stays more in his natural singing range. A problem with much of VHIII is that the vocal melodies aren't so memorable, and it always sounds like Cherone is shredding is vocal chords. He just sounded better in Extreme. I have a feeling Ed was dictating some of the melody lines, but he just didn't understand how to arrange for a singer well enough. And as Troy said, i'm sure he contributed to the potential new album during his tenure with the band.
Niv

The music of BOSTON helped shape who I am as an artist, and the opportunity to be a part of their musical legacy is overwhelming. It’s been an honor to share the stage with them, and a bigger honor to call them my friends."

According to a report from Blabbermouth.net, Sweet has further clarified his comments, making sure fans knew that Boston would continue without him.

"I feel the need to clarify that my statement released on August 10 about my decision to focus on Stryper in the near and distant future and therefore not allowing me the time to perform with Boston certainly should not imply that Boston is no more. They will continue on and all Boston fans should be encouraged and excited about the future of the band and what lies ahead. I wish them nothing but the best and as a fan myself, I'll be the first in line when they tour and the first to purchase the next Boston record!"
