Just go back to Wetton/Downes: Icon and let John Payne carry on as Asia, playing whatever the fuck he likes, he still does it better than the "original" line-up have done since 1990 (and even then they replaced Howe with Pat Thrall...)

Just the same as every other band. Some people seem a bit selective about who's a tribute act and who's not... really... they all are.

The Original Asia are embaressing. Even their albums are boring, let alone the live show. This new guy (he's my age!), sounds shit hot, but he'll be buried under parping keys and a monotone croak, so I doub't he'll get time to shine.
The John Payne version are much better. Their new single shits on anything the reunited version have done.

Went to see the 'original' line up with Steve Howe in his OAP cardigan and they bored me to tears only to me decent part was Carl Palmer on drums!
Call them what you want but live John Paynes line up kicks the 'originals back sides! In my opinion of course!!Lol!!

He's just about bearable in Yes, becaue they aren't purely a rock band, so his little quirks don't seem so bad.
But watching Asia on the reunion tour where 4 old men just stood there, and then the guitar solo was a skinny balding old school teacher-lookalike standing on one leg playing some 1930's ragtime number... well, it was mortifying.
They could continue with another guitarist, but I think they'd still be boring. John Wetton's voice is way past it's prime, Geoff's keyboards sound like something that should be played on the end of a pier while a magic act is performing to 20 people and Carl Palmer has been pretty ill of late.
Just let "Asia featuring John Payne" become "Asia", and let them carry on going forward. They have much more energy, and have a bigger back catalogue to draw from.
Sad thing is, if "Old Asia Pensioners" disband, Geoff will be full time in Yes :-( Oliver Wakeman deserves that job.
