Overlooked/Under-appreciated eras in artists' careers

So I was thinking today that many artists have had a period in their career that is often overlooked, despite it containing some quality stuff.

Two examples:

Magnum - Everything pre-Storyteller's. Very prog, very dynamic and Clarkin's lyrics were fantastical tales of magic and wonder. Really well-written, well-performed and there are some outstanding tracks on the early albums nowadays overlooked in favour of On A Storyteller's Night and everything that came afterwards.

Bruce Springsteen - Before Born To Run 1975 and his subsequent stadium rock anthems, he put out two incredible albums with a more prominent jazz/soul influence in the early seventies; Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ and The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle. Especially the latter is spectacular. Groovy and epic with outrageous lyrics! Each song containing more words than a standard album. Stunning stuff!

Anyone got any other examples of overlooked eras?

I just thought it too light & fluffy/uber commercial sounding when I got it. Vital Signs was def more commercial for them, but WSC just went too far for me at first. But the songs won out after awhile and once the corner was turned, I really dug it. One of my fav tunes by them--Rebel Son, is on it. Great track! Too Hot To Sleep went the other way for me... Isn't this awful heavy for Survivor? Can't these guys make up their minds? And..where's the rhythm section? Another Raised On Radio scenario--here we go. Same deal...I came to enjoy it much later upon digging it out of the ol' collection. Cool when that happens. I tried that a few different times with CITG. Never quite took for me. T

NP: Darkness- Hot Cakes (love this cd!!)
