edguy opinions

I am fairly new to edguy music with my first experience being Hellfire club, which I really liked, It was hard but melodici. King of fools is a super song. their next cd i think was called rocket ride I really enjoyed also. Clearly this album was more commercial but still had some good rocking songs. After that I never bought their next two albums, mainly because of mostly bad reviews and with being in the states the album was an import so pretty expensive.

however a few weeks ago i found their newest age of the joker for a good price and bought it. I really like this album. More in line with rocket ride than hellfire club with some really catchy tunes but still very good hard rock/metal. was surprsied as some bad reviews on it.

I know nothing of their stuff before hellfire club but from what I have read they were a miuch harder band who has over the years gone a ilttle more poppy and commerical.

opinions?
also the album between age of the joker and rocket ride, i cant remember the name right now but started with a T ...is that cd a similiar style?

Rocket Ride has a couple of duff tracks but is also a very solid album IMO.

I'm not a fan of the whole double kick from start to finish standard power metal fare and prefer it when these bands slow it down and show some real power...............a good example is Stratovarius - to me boring when going full speed but awesome when slow and powerful in tracks like Uncertainty, Kiss of Judas.

Vain Glory Opera and Theater Of Salvation are some of the finest albums I have ever heard in that genre. Mandrake was stellar but started a shift towards the more melodic metal....still loved it though.

From there on in whilst the albums were good, I dont think any of them really approached the greatness of the earlier material.

If you like more the melodic route then I'd suggest these albums in order (brackets are my personal ranking):

Rocket Ride (5)
Age Of The Joker (6)
Tinitis Sanctus (7)
Mandrake (3)
Hellfire Club (4)
Theater Of Salvation (1)
Vain Glory Opera (2)
Kingdom of Madness (8)

Since Avantasia, Edguy have suffered for me.Tinnitus Sanctis was rubbish and Joker not much better.
All the Avantasia albums are quality- Scarecrow is the best of the bunch though.
