Van halen?

What is going on with them? They release a new cd and set up big tour. Then they cancell alot supposedly because of exhaustion then of course Eddie s health scare. But thought they were goin to continue to tour. But all I hear is David doin this or doin that like singing with former nirvana members. Just sounds like typical van halen crap.

Re: Van halen?

Sure,Brent--no probs. The debut,Lady In Waiting, and Hurry Sundown are the first three, and all very strong. The band had three lead singers in Hughie Thomasson,Billy Jones, and Henry Paul. All wrote as well and contributed/sang lead on their own respective material. THey were known as the 'Florida guitar army' back in the day with lots of harmony leads along with a strong rhythm in HP. Now that he has rejoined these last few years, they've put together a VERY solid band of players and really do sound refreshing once again like those early days. The two lead guitarists have the original sound down to a tee and you'd swear it was Billy & Hughie. Hence my tagging them as a heritage act that captured their original sound so well on the newbie. All songs from 'It's About Pride' are on y-tube. That's how I discovered it and I had to order one immediately. Good luck--hope it trips your trigger. Cheers, T

To me they didn't seem the best at anything if you know what I mean.

I didn't give them much of a chance so ........I'll check out their latest. Whether them recapturing the original spirit is a good thing or not I won't know until I know if I like their early stuff LOL.

Thanks for the heads up anyway.

Ultimate Classic Rock and Guitar World both gave it their album of the year , so you're not alone.

As a huge VH fan of both eras I came in with very low expectations and had them smashed. Having said that the album hasn't proven to have the staying power of the classic material , but compared to other bands of their vintage .....not much of a contest IMO. They managed to recapture the spirit of their classic era better than any other band I can think of......even allowing for the use of some old demos.

Wouldn't even surprise me if they do have another album in the can! I think its just down to the fact that Eddie is genuinely NOT in great health. As for the relationship between him and Roth....i dont think there will ever be anyone else singing for the band now...i believe this is the last incarnation of the band we will see. Good enough for me cause i LOVED the new album, never understood why so many people were slaming it, but each to their own i guess. Peace.

Had no interest before Hagar joined, and have no interest since he left. I listened to their new album on a plane back from Africa a couple of weeks ago and it did not sparkle any interest in me. To me, VH with Roth never really had songs, mostly riffs that were not going anywhere. With Hagar, they started to have well-crafted songs and that was more appealing to me than anything else.

So for a guy in his mid-50's, that's alot of health shit, and it's got to take it's toll and make for a longer recovery time.
I imagine Troy is spot on.
Obviously Van Halen have made a rod for their own back with all the shit over the years, so now if Eddie's health takes a turn for the worse or Wolfie has exams to finish and a chance to tour with his friends, the forums light up with rumours of Dave and Eddie hating each other... But i think it seems fairly obvious that it was going to take some time to get over that before they can tour again.
Niv
