At first listen, love the unreleased stuff and the unplugged has some good moments. The Live album...wow...sounds like it was recorded with an tape recorder. I like it for the nostalgia, but it is definitely for fans only.

Re: Roxy Blue...FINALLY!

Troy - Oops, forgot to check the "follow topic" and "e-mail me about replies" boxes, didn't see your response (or anyone else's) until now...I was like "why is no one posting after me?" lol Same for your reply to my Britny Fox post from a little earlier. Made sure to check those boxes now in case anyone responds to this. Sorry about that. I guess for people that post here more, checking the boxes is second nature by now, while I'm still adjusting to the format change from before lol

Anyway, to me, "Rob the Cradle" reminded me of VH's "And the Cradle Will Rock" just due to the title. As to the subject matter, come to think of it, I do think I realized, even then, that it was about an older guy lusting for someone underage, but I guess due to my age (around 16 at the time), I didn't feel it was such a big deal...since I lusted for girls that age, too, obviously ;-) Oh, and yeah, the ballads were good...plus I prefer their cover version of "Squeeze Box" to Poison's.

That's cool you got $60 on ebay for your Roxy Blue CD! I paid about $40 for the first CD I bought from ebay - the Electric Angels self titled CD. I was a big fan of The Loveless/Jonathan Daniel, especially his lyrics, so I was willing to pay anything to hear more. The CD did not disappoint. I was in college at the time, no longer doing the paper route, but still with limited music buying money...so that's high praise from me. Jonathan Daniel was even nice enough to respond to me when I e-mailed him to ask him where I could find the CD. I think he took exception to my use of the word "rare" (lol), but other than that, really cool guy.

And to those of you saying Wildside was better, I'm not as into that music style as I was in my youth, I think hearing that Loveless CD I mentioned earlier, in college, was a big part of my turning point, but I may check out that debut CD someday.

Re: Roxy Blue...FINALLY!

My tastes have pretty much moved on from bands like this, but I'll admit I was a fan back in the day. Saw the video for "Rob the Cradle" on MTV and figured they were worth taking a chance on, since even though I was just starting high school then and all my peers were moving on to grunge, I was still pretty loyal to that music style (to my social detriment, but whatever, you have to stand for something lol). Everyone was saying they were a Van Halen rip off, from the singer's antics to the album title to even the single title, but I didn't care, I liked their songs and the guitar player. Also that they had some kind of link to Jani Lane.

So yeah, certainly not the most original band at the time, but much better IMO than most of what you'd hear on a typical Perris Records compilation. Its all about the songs for me and they had them. Anyone ever check out their peers Wildside? I almost bought their record back then (a record store gave me a 2 song sampler cassette by them when I bought "The Wild Life" by Slaughter), but never did. I think that day at the store, it came down to Roxy or Wildside competing for my paper route money and I chose Roxy :-)

What's funny is that, I guess because like I said, I was still young and innocent myself back then, I had no idea what "Rob the Cradle" was about or why it could be so controversial lol Just figured it was a fun, party song about a guy that liked a girl. Now I'm like "ahhhh...I get it." Older and wiser. Hard to imagine a song like that coming out today, huh? ;-)

Oh, and there's a hilarious parody of "Rob the Cradle" done by Liberty N' Justice on one of their albums. Sung by Dale Thompson (Bride). "Cain to Abel". When I first heard it, I was like "omg...this is JUST like Rob the Cradle by Roxy Blue...most obscure hair metal parody ever and I got it, go me" lol I also got the LN'J song that references Vic Rivera and his songs, but apparently I was the only one...I guess I'm more of a "lyrics guy" than most here? Even if it took me awhile to grasp "Rob the Cradle" ;-)
