Book - Mike Wall - AC/DC: Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be

Very interesting book that shed a different light on the band. It is extremely well researched. The Johnson Years are discussed too briefly for my taste, with too much emphasis on Bon Scott and his "magic touch". The author does not seem to care much for the Johnson Years, and it is my view that he feels that AC/DC were much less interesting after Bon died. I personally do not share this feeling.

As many bands, one realizes that AC/DC had a run of four classic records sandwiched between "immature" ones, where the band find its style, and uninspired ones, where brilliance is not always there.

Still, the book is worth every penny. Mike Wall always research his subjects extensively and it shows in the final result.

I just get the biggest charge out of his high, goofy voice--and all those hysterical double entendre lyrics! :-) T

And you can keep your double standards ,and you can keep your silly rules--and all the other sHIT that they teach the kids in school.Cuz I Ain't No Fool....Gonna Be A Rock n'Roll Singer,Gonna Be A Rock n' Roll Star--Yes I Are! The others I rarely spin.

Bon Era, HTH I listen to the most though Deeds and If You Want Blood are also excellent.

The only AC/DC albums I still spin on regular basis are BIB and FTATR. And I have them all! :-) I think Johnson is an amazing blues singer as shown on "Let Me Put My Love Into You", "ROck'n'Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" and the great "Rock'N'Roll Dreams" from Black Ice.

In reality, I do not think we can compare both era. They are very different. Same as it makes little sense to compare VH with Roth or Hagar.

With Bon, two great albums in "Powerage" and "HTH". With Brian, 2 1/2 with BIB, FTATR and Black Ice (1/2). The rest is rather average overall for my personal tastes. Lots of filler in the middle of some jewels.

His songwriting was always hysterical and the band knew how to boogie down early on. Not to mention of course that he arguably(?) had the better voice. hE wasn't a screamer like BJ,who's lucky to even hit any actual notes live.T
