Paradise Lost - Draconian Times

Haven't listened to this for a long time and kinda lost track of what PL have been up to over the past 10 years or so. But just played this album again today and it truly is excellent. Hallowed Land, The Last Time, Once Solemn - all songs that are almost stadium rock in their huge sound and melodic structure.

Well worth checking out if people haven't done before and like a little muscle with their melody! If you're 100% pink and fluffy it probably won't be for you.

I saw them at the Espy earlier this year supporting Catheral. It was a million degrees in the room and on a tiny stage, but they still delivered.

They haven't released a bad album since returning to form with Symbol Of Life. Their latest album Tragic Idol is well worth getting. Just for the track 'Theories From Another World' alone.

Re: Paradise Lost - Draconian Times

Hmmm... To be fair when was first released I heard an old school record sound to it, certainly far removed from the big budget sounds the likes of Superunknown for example. So aging was never going to be its strong point but having said that I still listen to it once in a while still so a long wait between listens would probably reveal some unfortunate aging processes yes ;)

But otherwise DraconianTimes was and remains a stellar album. Much has been said over the years regarding its intentional commercial leanings but I think that's rubbish. The more accepted a band become the more accessible their material is to the masses, so, taken for what it still is the album stands its ground. Add to that great artwork and packaging and its easy to see and hear why it was so well received in its day.

Just this weekend I smashed through a couple sittings of their recent DraconianTimes MXII boxDVD package (beautiful collection) and was reminded how good an album DT truly was (and how good a band ParadiseLost remain). Enchanted is to my ears THE blueprint of the genre but gotta give a huge shout out for Yearn For Change probably the next best thing (and more melodic than most the rest).

Oh and jaysw if you've not already you could do worse than check out the recent ParadiseLost albums they are in fine old form... Personal fave being their 2005 self titled album, followed by InRequiem and this years TragicIdol was great too ;)
