Montrose - Warner Bros. Presents

I bought this album a few weeks ago in Berlin for 1 euro! What a good surprise. Excellent blues influenced hard rock. I had never heard of the singer, Bob James, and really like his singing. He's not the best ever, but he really fits. The songs are good and discovering this album 37 years after its release makes me regret not to have been 18 in the 70's.

I have the classic debut and Paper Money, the latter with which I was very disappointed with (I got The Fire excepted...lousy production though). I have a best of with a few songs from Mean and probably a couple from ...presents and Jump..., none of which do much for me but I may check this out if I see it cheap. I do like the songs from Mean though. Ready Willing and Able is great!

The sound is horrible but there are a few good hard rocking songs on it. I like it, but it is closer to "Presents" than the first two with Sammy. Funnily enough, I never really fell for the first album.

The only real "problem" with Presents, is that it wasn't as good as the debut and was lighter with the keys etc so was not perceived well on release. Debut was a genre defining classic that couldn't be matched, Presents and Jump paved the way nicely for the formation of Gamma though.
