I saw them for about £12 in 1980(ish) on one of their first 'farewell' tours with J. Geils Band and Black Uhuru (might have been Burning Spear though !) and they were shite...everything played at a 1000mph !!

I have no problem with sub-par musicianship. I like KISS for instance, and they are no virtuoso. I also prefer guys like Bernie Marsden to Steve Vai. My biggest problem with the Stones is that I do not like the songs at all. And they are badly played. I don't care about the fact they were the anti-Beatles. If I like KISS, it is because I like most of their songs. And then, I can appreciate what they stand for. And yes TRS have been a smashing success indeed. There is a "famous" concert DVD where at one stage Keith tries to hit a fan who invaded the stage with his guitar. I recently saw that on TV, and Jagger was so out of tune it was scary. I don't think he could sing in tune to save his life.

Mick Taylor was the only guy worth listening to. Smart musical move to have left... financially though, I am not so sure.

But live - am I the only one that finds Jagger completely, totally and utterly embarrassing to watch? Prancing around like a spastic, homosexual stick insect. It's cringe worthy beyond belief. When I see them I just focus on the ineffable cool of Keith and Ron in the background, but Jagger's Camp stage presence is very distracting.
