Is it a solo album if you did not write any of it?

So I finally got a cd from Amazon that could not be found in stores and started listening and really enjoying

I'm leafing through the cd booklet and was surprised to see the artist who the CD is listed under as being their solo cd wrote none of the material.
It brought up the question - Is it right to call it a solo album under a name when that person wrote nothing?

I know many artists bring in writers but I'm curious what people think.
One of the first times this really hit me was when I bought the first Jonny Lang cd when he was touted as being this brilliat up and comer and i found he wrote like 2 songs on the debut and it left a bad taste in my mouth and kinda felt duped after all the press he got.

Really enjoying the cd but at same point I wonder if its right to call it a persons cd when they wrote none of it

That's a solo album. I didn't say it was wrong to bring Elton or Elvis into this, but those are solo artists not group members... The discussion doesn't make any sense (at least not to me) when you look at it that way. You could also argue, that you can't call an album by a groups name, when not all the members were involved in the writing process...

The same went for certain bands who had stuff written for them due to their commercial appeal - ie. The Sweet. The trend has just continued. Why should someone with a great voice not be a singer when they can't write a decent tune? A great example is Danny from Thunder, one of the best voices around, but he admits he is no good at writing a decent tune.
