Opeth/Anathema Glasgow

I really enjoyed Anathema's last two cd's so primarily went to see them. Excellent band but Im sure they will agree that they have had better nights.
Went to see Opeth with an open mind and have listened to some of their cd's. Very talented musicians but I have to say OUCH !!!!. Im sorry to say that I had to admit defeat and left early. Ive said it before and Ill say it again. Why oh why do artists feel the need to revert to death grunts/growls throughout much of their material. I really enjoy hard rock bands and thoroughly enjoy Sabbath, Dream Theater, Edguy, Nightwish etc. I just dont get it when bands ruin to my ears, perfectly good songs with these grunts.
On the side of balance, the majority of the audience really liked the band, so it really is only my opinion. I paid the money however and went out to see them to see what they were like and as I said already OUCH !!!!

I also liked the way that they headlined the Bloodstock Festival twice in two years (brought in last minute after Heaven and Hell pulled out) and they only repeated 2 songs. Mikeals banter is amusing aswell, totally at odds with the usual 'brutal' BS DM frontmen usually spew out.

In response to pure666metal, I try and go see as many bands as I can these days. I have been surprised in the past by taking a chance. I recognised Opeth's quality as musicians and felt it worth going to see them. Conclusion I didnt like them, but I took the time to go see them so I felt I had every right to post, particularly to see other people's opinions.

The show was frustratingly paced with the extended breaks between songs and ill planned jumps between styles killing any momentum.
I enjoyed Anathema's 45 minute support set but don't think a full 2 hours from them would sustain my interest.
