Ballads - A Different Take

I like hard rock and metal as much as the next person. The soft stuff and the hard stuff...It seems that there is a huge dislike for ballads these days. Personally I wish bands would write more ballads. Gotthard is a band that comes to mind. They have a whole best of cd of ballads and it is awesome! Why can't more bands do this?

I am not saying the new Aerosmith is great by any means but some people are saying it sucks just because it has too many ballads. It's fine with me but other bands could write better ballads than Aerosmith if they wanted to. I have always wanted some bands to make whole cd of ballads but it will probably never happen. Firehouse is one band that comes to mind.

Hate all you want but it's just an opinion...I like some stuff like Overkill, UDO, Motorhead, etc. but there's nothing wrong with an awesome ballad in my book.

Any suggestions on bands that continue to write great ballads?

That is the problem for me though, it's way more rare for me to be totally grabbed by a ballad.

It often takes far more spins to appreciate the ballads (for me) and for the most part, a ballad is just another ballad. Then, once in a while, a ballad comes along that brings out that special feeling and mood in me . . . rare, but it happens.

I feel that a slow and moody song must be so much better and special for me to be really grabbed by it. I can listen to a melodic singalong or an uptempo rocker without the total indulging feeling, but not when it comes to ballads. If I don't feel it, I skip it.

Not more than 2-3 ballads on an album, I'd say.

// Figge

Hence Gotthard is one of my favourite bands. I like to see up to 30% of a CD with ballads on it (3/10).

Allen/Lande have some cool ballads for a heavier 'band'.

Jaded Heart did when Michael Borman was there.

Halestsorm have some quality ballads on their latest release

Shinedown are turning into experts at writing great ballads.

Nickelback aint bad either.
