I never suggested that the posing and posturing DIDN'T apply to other bands BUT I was referring to it being 'silly' to me because you 'particularly' mentioned Nightwish. To me the way they 'present' themselves is 'forced' because its an image people expect of them. I just find the video's samey and uninspired...which in all honesty I could also say about the music i have heard by them. As for kamelot, they bored me tbh. Defo not m bag and likes of Nightwish, within temptation do this stuff way better than them IMHO

I can totally understand why people dont like the band, me personally I think they are sensational. Live they generate tremendous excitement and I would rate the two shows I have seen by them in my all time top ten gigs.

Hmmmm...whilst not a 'fan' of the Darkness they had utilised a formulae that had been successful before. They mixed 70's style Thin Lizzy riffs n hooks with Queen style vocals. It was familiar, yet silly. As Rocknut said..they invoked a Carry On style memory and it worked for them.

Not arguing over the 'talent' side of things but that said I'm not really a fan of Nightwish either. IMHO they are also 'silly' but in a totally different way. The video posturing especially is kind of embarassing and totally 'false. Their music is overblown for overblown's sake. I find alot of their stuff sounding very very similiar and it becomes tiresome very very quickly.

So in summary I dont like either band but would take a quick 3 minute hit of 'I believe in a thing called love' over any of the 'pretentious posturing' of Nightwish any day.But thats just me.

Traditionally hard rock in all it's guises is shunned in the UK. There was a brief period during the mid to late 80's where it made the charts on a regular basis, but that's been about it. Even now it's still a nostalgic comedy trip looking back for the majority here.

The operatic/theatrical stuff produced by Nightwish doesn't stand a chance, and it won't change any time soon.
