Just curious as to other peoples opinions. What if bon Scott had not died and continued on as lead singer for ac/dc, and lets say they released back in black just the same . would it been as massive as it was and would ac/dc be arguably the biggest band in world even now in 2012? ....my take is no to both. I think they were clearly on the upswing and finally broke through in the states with highway to hell. but i think the publicity they had with bon's death got them alot of attention that really helped them with back in black. I also feel while I love bon scott, i do think brian johnson had a stronger and more powerful voice. I do think they would have been big but not near as big long term. and..What if David lee roth had never left van halen, would they just have continued with million selling albums etc? ...I again say no to an extent. I will be honest and say while i am roth fan, I much prefer van hager. But the reason i say no, is because I feel the band at the time of diver down and even 1984 had kinda got into a rut. yes 1984 was their biggest album and huge singles but mtv helpd that alot. I think they woudl have continued to go more in a pop direction with roth lead (not that they didnt do pop with hager they did but they also did things roth coudl not and would not do). On VH: I think they made a brilliant comeback with 1984 after the hideous Diver Down, so they were on the up again.
