The significance of that remains to be seen. Fingers crossed it works out favourably for all concerned.

Gav

Everyone I know that goes to Firefest feels as though they in their own small way has played their part in making the show happen. I've always felt that Firefest has a "We're all in this together" vibe about it and as long as that continues, I don't see how Firefest can fail.

All that said, I do wish HRH AOR well simply because as a fan of this music, I'd love to see it's profile raised even further.

I don't envisage any major problems between both events other than everyone's own financial restraints. Firefest though has a huge, loyal following and I'm sure as long as Kieran and the guys keep working their magic, I'll be there.

Good luck to both I say.

Jim

My 0.02c on It

Hrh are a very well run and established festival , and are looking to grow even further with the addition of the Prog and AOR festivals. I've no doubt they will be successful , the only consideration I would put forward is even though the shows are 6 months apart , it might force a LOT of people to choose one or the other. The world is not a good place financially for almost everyone, a lack of jobs, money, disposable income makes for a very tight budget for lots of people. It's an expensive weekend for everyone attending Firefest, we are WELL AWARE of same. That's why we try and make it as good as we possibly can (meet and greets, free acoustic gigs,an extra charity night event with guest dj's etc. etc ) and primarily a LOT of bands that realistically there is little hope of seeing in the UK on tour...plus of course some reformations that people didn't expect . I'm just not sure that financially people can afford to attend both shows when you add up ticket cost, accomodation, travel and entertainment expenses. The danger is IF people are forced to choose , it may end up diluting the crowd to the point that neither show is capable of sustaining itself finacially and fans end up with nothing.
There is no jealousy or animosity betweek FF and HRH , I don't know anyone over at HRH or any of their team, I'm sure like Firefest, they are only interested in what they do , not what others are doing. Firefest will continue to bring 'name' acts from the genre along with one or two that you perhaps would not expect , but at all times staying within our melodic hard rock genre......as long as we continue to receive the amazing support that we do (mind you we have worked extremely hard to EARN the TRUST and respect of the people who buy tickets over the last nine years and I think Firefest and the atttendees enjoy a VERY SPECIAL relationship with each other that no other festival enjoys -THANKS GUYS) Time will tell if both FF and HRH will either complimet or hinder each other .....
Cheers
K

I think people forget that FF is not run by professional promoters, but by music fans, and that every penny goes to making the show. You want tickets to be cheaper you'll get lower profile bands as the overall budget will be lower.

I think there is room for two such events and 6 months apart is ideal. I appreciate that not everyone can afford to attend both but I suspect many (at least from the UK) will. I suspect if you have to decide for only 1, then many factors will come into play besides the lineups, both events have become much more than festivals - loyalties and friendships etc..

I am a FF regular but am attending HRH for the first time this year, partly due to one of the FF organisers telling me how good HRH is.

Cheers

Mark H

The venue was long and thin and moveing through the crowd was imposaable. We allmost didn't make it to the wheelchair platform. For the first time ever I didn't mind leaveing early as my dad over heard a security guard say they planned to "kettle" us on the platform while the main crowd left. Hopefully no other bands ar book on this so called "venue".

Poster - rew37
Same as you mate, Joe Bonamassa was amazing but the venue was terrible. As well as the problems you mention with access and egress, they stopped us at the roundabout and said the car park was full. We had to walk 3/4 mile in which we weren't happy with as our friend has a bad back. When we got there, there were plenty of parking spaces, as we got to the building, they started letting cars in again. The security guys were just a joke. Once we were inside, the auditorium was terrible. I'm 5'11" and couldn't see a thing as the stage was too low and there's no natural slope, so my wife who's 5'2" didn't stand a chance. Why the hell he didn't play Sheffield City Hall which is a far better venue is beyond me.

I would strongly advise anyone not to go to a gig at Rotherham Magna, it's just not fit to hold concerts as it simply isn't set up for them.
