Andrew - Dokken review

Spot on, mate!

Without the middle section, this would actually be a really good record.

I've got used to Don sticking to his lower range, and his voice still sounds good to my ears within that range. I think they got the blend of old and new influences more accurately nailed on this one, than on say "Hell To Pay", which wasn't a bad album by any means, which leaned more towards the more modern approach

Re: Andrew - Dokken review

The DOKKEN has some great songs, but the mid section is to slow to mid paced and it loses its impact. A few good tracks at the start and at the end. Some typical DOKKEN traits in there. I agree, DD's softer, more even approach tends to lend to a overall relaxed feel within the songs, but if he can't push it anymore..what else can he do? I can deal with that I guess, I mean come on..we are comparing him to his best work of 25 years ago! What I find harder to get into, is this habit he/the band has of using that Egyptian, Asian type of melody..in the vocals and the melodies and riff's. On one or two tracks, oK..but they seem to use it a lot. Couple of tracks on this have a MAIDEN-ish vibe and of course, SCORPIONS.

FADE AWAY, parts of that are re-writes of STOP FIGHTING LOVE on 87s BFTA.

Sonically, its sounds great. The playing is excellent. Overall..I like it, but its not a classic. 6 tracks I really like, the rest I can take it or leave it.

Not saying the worst because shadowlife and smoke this by lynch mob are two of the worst albums in my collection but his voice just bugs the crap out of me on this one.
