Really sounds like Sabu was a mess, which is a real shame. I like most of his new album, but pehaps Vince was the wrong guy to write it.

Will it be the last Z Rock? I thought they were pretty good, i was a little worried they'd be tooo Def Leppard sounding....but whilst the influence is obvious especially in Crash's voice on certain tracks, i think they are too good to be labelled clones....be interested to see where the guys go from here....

I gave up around 11.30 thinking thank heavens I didn't buy a Sunday ticket! I've never seen such a shambles. Long delays between acts, hardly any communication, the continual playing of the same album between acts and that's not half the tale. Spent most of the afternoon wondering how on earth this was financially viable.

Funniest moment for me was Sabu being announced for him to have to say from the stage erm, another 5 minutes please! Sadly 20-odd minutes after that it all went horribly wrong when he actually started. I could've coped with the laptop troubles but the drawn out guitar changes, demands for duct tapes and mothers' meetings between the band was just bonkers. 4 minutes song, 5 minute gap seemed to be the pattern.I was just glad to get away by then and couldn't really have cared if he'd turned it around after I left.

This is something we need to sort, we NEED a few good peep's to enter the fray as far as tours/live shows are concerned and regain the inner circle fans trust and get a few more live shows going on....

personally i think no one should go and do a festival cause as Cymru points out its dead in the water before it even starts cause we've all lost trust in unknown, unestablished events, concentrate on a three band line-up and hit as many regions as is financially viable would be my suggestion....

but unfortuntaley it all boils down to money and the fanbase been so unbelieveable tiny to make these events worthwhile for fans, bands and promoters alike.....

we all have to admit the success of Firefest is not mirrored anywhere else, i've been to more one man and his dog gigs than i've had hot dinners....so...i ain't mad enough to step up to the plate.....although i'll be first in the que.....

Paul Sabu came back the next day and according to the stage announcer wanted to atone for his f*** up the night before- it started out less shambolic but we were soon back to the problems of the night before. i was talking to a bird, she was origanlly from germany but has been living and working in Brum for three years. And we were talking about the black country - well anyway long story short, she said someone at one of the local bars had said how great it was people from outside of the UK visiting Bilston and that knife and gun crime wasn't as bad as people think...

well been the curious soul she was and finding it odd that it was brought up.......and before she even said it i started laughing and said please tell me you didn't......and yes she had she'd bloody googled it!!! hahahaha....i told her not worry though, stuff like this makes the news but normal people live here too....I never seen a gun, never been stabbed or witnessed either....and i'm born and bred....hahaha!

She did have a positive attitude towards the black country, which was refreshing even mentioning the significance of the industrial revoultion and redevelopment in the area......(to the world at large.....your welcome....BTW hope you enjoy Led Zeppelin too their alright for a little black country band ay they!)....i didn't have to rip me shirt off exposing my Black Country bastard and proud tattoo and get on my soapbox about my love of my home....trees and fields are overated anyway, besides we got the Arbo anyway for that lark! hahaha....

Richie, a lot of sites/FB that posted Z Rock posts can't be lumped into the Z Rock camp. I did think the 70% sold out PR was sales BS, but we could only post what was sent to us. I found a few things out over the weekend that were shocking but i was unaware of these things prior to the weekend. 99% of the people i work with at MIDLANDS ROCKS are totally unaware of Z/Mark Alger and the festivals repuation and other stories behind it, such is the insignificance of this genre we love to the grand scheme of things in the rock world!

It's not been mentioned here but Mark has posted on FB, that it was the last Z Rock. Personally i think Mark would be nuts to carry on, it's not finacially viable and will only cause more bad blood between bands and create a bad reputation for the UK as a place to come and play a gig.....

I did say to Steve Newman i was shocked he was playing, but it was just an opportunity to play live, they didn't have massive expectations but were obviously disapointed. As we all know its very hard for bands to have opportunity to play live to a decent crowd and without sending themselves bankrupt .

As amazing as Firefest is, it is only one gig and every band that wants and deserves a slot can't play every year. I'm sure the FF team would be fully supportive of more tours within the genre as long as it was done right and bands weren't left in debt afterwards.

I'd just like to point out i'm not Mark's 'Buddy', i 100% don't agree with mistreatment of bands and i think now the festival has ended that Mark should concentrate on paying back those who showed faith in him and his vision. I am just a massive fan of live music pure and simple.

*edit - in addition, a friend of mine said to me at Z Rock 09 in Dudley, anyone who openly supports the festival will be tared with the same brush as those involved with it's organistation. I was just supporting live music from musicians and bands within this VERY tiny bubble of music....

Lets just say it has been a very intersting weekend, i'd be lying if i said there was nothing i enjoyed about the weekend....but lots of *cough* interesting stuff going on....

meet some great...nay awesome people over the weekend.....and i REALLY should have asked her for her number.....its a rareity to meet someone who likes the Black Country accent....totally ballsed that up.....bugger....

Steve Newman, dedicated a song to me.....which was very cool. I truly appreciate not only Newman but all the bands who put their own time and effort into coming and playing - i just wish a few more had been there to show their appreciation too. too all the bands and musicians THANK YOU!!!!

Attendence wise was better than last year, but still not large enough to fund an event of this size.....i can't give exact figures.....

Lets put it this way there was plenty of room for me consume one too many beers, order food, spend more time in the bog than is probably healthy.....and still have a perfect view of the stage....
