Hey SFK Kurt...

I guess this is similar to my Eve 6 question from a few days ago:

If I remember correctly, you've raved a bit about the New Radicals in SFK. I love their hit "You Get What You Give" (singer's voice reminds me a lot of Jeff Lynne's). I'm just wondering whether or not that track is indicative of the rest of the album. If so, I don't think I'm gonna be able to put off buying it any longer.

Btw, I just picked up "Something Like Human" by Fuel. Cool album, IMO. It's rocks, it's got some strong melodies, and there's definitely a Pearl Jam/Creed feel to it. Eve 6 is worthwhile too. I also picked up Nine Days, but I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Anyways, thanks in advance for the info. on New Radicals. Take care.

He does a song called "Spaceship" that played where I live. That's about 6th best song on his cd. He's really great!

RE: Thanks SFK Kurt...

...I appreciate that. I'll watch for it cheap. Btw, obviously I'm aware of the fact that you're an open-minded fan of modern music. One of my fave albums from the '90s was Toad the Sprocket's "Dulcinea." If you haven't heard it, you should consider picking it up. Huge harmonies and haunting melodies. Good stuff. Some similarities to Vertical Horizon, actually. Thanks again for the info.
Don

RE: The Mighty VH...

...(No, not Van Halen! I mean Vertical Horizon)

Hi Peter & C.C.,

Thanks for the tip on VH, but this is one band that I already TOTALLY dig. "Everything You Want" is among my favorite albums of '99. I realize that tastes differ, and there are probably many who disagree with me, but I can say with complete sincerity that I don't think there's a track on the album that even comes close to being filler. Holy Moses this band knows how to write a catchy melody!!! Anyone out there who's into hook-laden power pop definitely owes it to themself to check this album out. To these ears, it sounds kind of like a modern, somewhat beefier version of R.E.M. The singer's voice actually reminds me very much of Michael Stipe's (that's the name of R.E.M.'s singer, isn't it?). As a matter of fact, I'm playing the album as I write this. These guys know their way around a ballad too. There are a couple of great ones on here. Yep, this album is pure class, IMO.

I don't know anything at all about other VH material, but if it exists and it's anything at all like "EYW" then I'm gonna have to check it out. As for the other artist you mentioned, Captain, I haven't heard of her. Any idea where I might be able to check out some soundbytes? Thanks. Take care.
Don

(They are pretty much unknown here in Europe - at least on the mainland.) Definitely one of the catchiest bands around. I guess they released a bunch of other albums prior to EYW. How do they compare?

Peter
