Who's Aldo Nova?

Rencently amazon. com recommdation center seem to push this artist. According to them some of the people who bought Night Ranger or Def Leppard titles also bought his album so I think he is the similar vain to NR.

Would someone introduce his music for me?

Thanks

As mentioned by another already, Subject is an awesome album from start to finish with astonishing creativity and melody. It is certainly in my top 20 albums of all-time. His first album contains his best song _Fantasy_, which is clearly one of the best songs ever, with the rest of the album being good, but not classic. Twitch is a good album, he went a little towards lighter AOR on this album. Blood on the Bricks is pretty bad, as far as I am concerned, but there seems to be widely varying opinions on it - people either love it or hate it. Nova's Dream is a cool concept type album, and I haven't listened to it enough yet to form a final opinion.

Is Heather Nova really Aldo's little sister?? I didn't know that.

Dave

It would be a shame not to mention that Aldo's keyboard work can be heard on Bon Jovi's "Runaway" from their debut. Jon and Aldo became good friends and I'd say Blood On The Bricks is one of the best melodic rock records in my collection. Songs like Bright Lights and Modern World really show off Aldo's amazing guitar work. He has been largely underrated as a musician. Speaking of underrated, his Nova's Dream from 1996 is one of the best instrumental works I've ever heard. He pays tribute to the great guitarists on this album (such as Carlos Santana, David Gilmore, and Jimi Hendrix). It's a phenomenal collection that showcases all of Aldo's talents.

From what I understand now, he is writing and producing for fellow Canadians, like Celine Dion. He has won numerous Grammy's and Juno Awards for his efforts.

Just a trivia fact: Aldo wrote, produced, and played nearly ever instrument on his debut album. This is mainly due to the fact that most people found him difficult to work with. He is also noted as being the man that began the leopard print pants fad in the early 80's.

Hope he returns to the scene soon,
Robert

I´d say most of Nova´s stuff rocks out a little more than eg. Survivor or most Journey.
"Twitch" was IMO pretty awful. Very tame. "Subject" however is excellent from start to finish. Both the first album and Blood On The Bricks have something to offer, the production is better on BOTB but I don´t know that there is a standout song in the vein of Fantasy or Heart To Heart from the first album.
Anyone know what Aldo Nova´s doing now?

I am now busying myself with a new job at Japanese tea firm.

No wonder Loverboy/Night Ranger/Billy Squire fans love his music.

Now I am enjoying David Coverdale's Into The Light and listening again to Whitesnake's Greatest Hits(actually it is vol.2). It would also be a great place to start, except for the fact that, as I mentioned, his sound/songwriting did change considerably from album to album.
RE: Who's Aldo Nova?

Hi Susumu,

Aldo Nova is a Canadian artist who came out with a self-titled album somewhere around '83 or '84, I think. Like our resident rock star, Danny Danzi, Aldo did pretty much everything on this album: vocals, guitar, bass, drums, keys, sonwriting, etc. He also became a fairly well-respected producer, I believe.

Musically, I'm not sure where I'd put his music. I'd imagine that just about everyone who posts on this thread will think of different artists to use as basis for comparisons. I'd say he generally fits in with the Journey/Survivor/Night Ranger - type sound, though. He has a pretty unique voice which, based on my experience, people either seem to really enjoy or consider to be weak. IMO, his music tends to contain lots of fat/warm/rich/crunchy guitar; some cool, swirly, "big" key sounds, as well as the typical emotive and layere vocals. He's a pretty well-rounded musician, but I think his guitar playing and producing are probably generally regarded as his biggest strengths.

The more I ramble on here, the more I realize that that's all I'm doing: rambling. It's time for someone else to give it a stab. I'll finish by saying this: His compilation entitled "A Portrait of Aldo Nova" contains quite a few tracks from his first three albums, which were his most famous/popular. Those albums were, in order of their release...
"Aldo Nova"
"Subject"
"Twitch"
It is readily available, and it would be a great place to start, as it'd give you a really good idea as to what Aldo sounds like and what each of these three albums sounds like. They are all considerably different from each other. Hope this has been at least somewhat helpful. Now will someone bail me out, please, I'm drowning...
Don
