Dumb question?

I recently found this site off a RUSH website.
I love 70's, 80's Hard rock and heavy metal. Actually I grew up in it.
I was just amazed as to how all the old rockers are still at it, and I didn't even know. That's commercialism for you.
Anyhow, what does AOR stand for? I see it all over the site.
I probably know it and it refers to this type of music, but for the life of me I can't come up with this acronim.
Thanks,
Rock on!

RE: Dumb question?

AFAIK, the term means "Album Oriented Radio". This resulted from the 80s, when US radio stations started to play more than the singles which were released from an album. Any track of an album had a chance for radio airplay. It turned to "Album Oriented Rock" as this was the type of music and later "Adult Oriented Rock" when the average age of the fans of this kind of music raised ;-)

Take care
Klaus

Think of the sound made popular by Journey, Foreigner, Survivor, etc and that is what AOR in it's purest sense is.

Kevin
