Night Ranger (Part 2)

I am glad there are so may NR fans in this board. In my last post Mojo issue is not discussed further. According to the liner note written by Japanese Feeding of Mojo was described as something which hurt Night Ranger's reputation referring to Jack Blades comments" We shouldn't have done this".

Should Mojo be neglected as NR work? I want to hear your opinion.

Thanks

Susumu

That is the situation I was talking about. I did say this was on the REO board and she saw them with REO. When a band plays on the same bill as another band (as an opening band or in some other arrangement) you will have folks there that would not have gone to that band if that band played by themselves, but who have an impression of the band based on the records they have heard on the radio. It is this sort of casual fan that I am talking about.

But the Mojo tour wasn't hyped nearly as much as RNS. And whereas RNS was a stadium type tour, Mojo was much smaller. My point was, essentially, that I can't imagine the casual fan has even heard of Mojo, much less went out to see it. This isn't to say that some people didn't have the experience your friend did. I'm just saying that *I* don't think in the grand scheme of things many people knew that there ever *was* a line-up change, if they don't follow the band closely. On the whole. Mojo certainly didn't break any records in sales and not promoted to the nth degree.

Maybe our ideas of "casual fans" are different?...

Rogue

Or that the person talking to me was lying? That person saw Night Ranger with a band she is a fan of, and didn't like Night Ranger, and so next time Night Ranger was playing with that same band, she wasn't interested in Night Ranger, because of the poor impression left from the previous show. Which was really a different band.

We don't disagree about the album. I did say "I don't think the album Feeding Off The Mojo would have hurt Night Ranger too much." No put down of the album there. It's a good album.

Maybe it's a "roll with the changes" kinda thing...but if you were there to see Jack, yes, you definitely would've been disappointed in the fact that he was not in attendence.

But I don't think the absence of Jeff, Jack, and Fitz detracts from "Feeding off the Mojo" as being a great rock album. And I find it sad that a lot of people won't give it a chance because Blades isn't on it. After all, Kelly was a big part of the voice in NR as well...

And I still think the casual listener seeing the name Night Ranger on a marquee will say "Yeah, they did Sister Christian! I loved that song. Let's go see 'em"

Rogue

RE: Night Ranger (Part 2)

I don't think the album Feeding Off The Mojo would have hurt Night Ranger too much. But the tour may have. On the REO Bulletin Board that used to be at the official site, back in 1997 Night Ranger came up because they were 2nd on the bill at one of REO's shows. Someone said she saw Night Ranger with REO two or 3 years back, and she didn't like them. Now, from when she saw them, I could tell it was the Kelly/Brad/Gary lineup she saw. But see, she didn't know she'd seen a band that was basically a different band from the one in the 80s and from the one that was touring in 1997. She didn't know that when she'd seen them it hadn't been the original lineup, and now in 1997 it was. I've no doubt that anyone going to those show expecting Kelly/Brad/Gary were pleased and thought they were great. But others were disappointed because they were expecting one thing and didn't get it. A casual fan who doesn't follow Night Ranger might, when deciding if they want to see Night Ranger, judge this lineup based on their experience of seeing the other lineup, and in some cases that is going to hurt the current lineup.

RE: Night Ranger (Part 2)

Well considering Jack Blades had nothing to do with Mojo, I have a hard time swallowing the "We" part. Jack was busy with other projects, specifically Damn Yankees, and from my standpoint, it didn't look like NR had much future in them considering that fact. But then Brad and Kelly reinvented it and gave us a super album. In my humble opinion, I think they SHOULD have used a different name, but they didn't. I guess they were banking on it bringing a few more people out...is it really any different than Jimi Jamison using the name Survivor? Or Teri Nunn using the name Berlin? Not all the original members sure, but two out of three ain't bad.

And I can't see how the Mojo project HURT NR at all? People didn't like it, they didn't buy it and vice versa. If anything, it kept the NR name alive while Jack was off playing with Ted and Tommy. He might not have had as much to come back to otherwise. And when he did come back, boy, what a difference from the NR we came to know and love. Lots of people liked it. Me? Much rather hear "Seven Wishes" or "Man in Motion" anyday over "Seven." They should've just called it Jack Blades' Night Ranger. Or maybe Night Ranger featuring Jack Blades. LOL!

And sure, I know I'm gonna get flack on this but I'm used to that from the NR discussion list!! LMAO!

Rogue
http://RogueCreations.tripod.com/
