RE: ....some groups like rubber, neve or marvelous

I agree most of these bands maybe on majors but that doesn't mean their records
are no good. If I find something interesting on an indie then I'll buy that too.
As far as The Shazam goes that was one I bought and threw straight back out.
Crap and no mistake and certainly not in the same league as M3 & Tsar etc.
Wonderland ? now your talking. Thay are great but they don'r really sound like the bands mentined on this thread. They are more sort of traditional with a Stonesy, Black Crowes kind of feel here & there with a singer who can sound like Freddie Mercury.
On the the musicianship front a lot of these bands can play just as well as anyone else. Listen to Tsar and then call me a liar if you dare.

There is a ton of other great pop out there like Doug Powell or All Star United.

> Marvelous 3 were Southgang in the 70's a LA hairband,Lit was a glam

Um 80s maybe? But the Marv 3 I have no doubt will be around for the long haul. Easily the cream of the crop.

As for others? Who knows what will happen in 5 years. I dont care. I like stuff like Tsar or Neve now and if they never make another good record, who cares? At least they made one.

Interchangeable. Hmmmm...

Well personally I love most of these bands. (I don't think anybody mentioned LEFTY did they? Worth a listen) It's these bands that have made rock, yes rock, exciting again for me after years in the dark ages.

You do have a point about bands not developing but that's the fault of the labels/industry not the bands. Bands just are not allowed time to develop and stretch anymore. I can't imagine any label now allowing a band to diversify in the way that the Beatles did. ("Er...nah. We don't do them three minute pop songs anymore. George plays the sitar and Ringo sings"!!!!) U2 have tried it but I'm not sure the've succeeded.

Best we can do is enjoy them while they last which, if the amount of promotion they're getting over here (UK) by the labels is anything to go by, won't be much longer. Mind you I AM the kiss of death for any band. If I buy it you can bet it will be available at 'a bargain near you' pretty damn soon!!!

You guys are only looking for major label stuff (All the majors are signing all the groups with similar sounds)

Have you heard of The Shazam,Wonderland,Michael Carpenter,Owsley,
David Mead. These guys make the current crop look like babies. They have talent.
Notice any guitar solos by band members , look at Mars Electric they
need an outside guitar player to do the lead parts. These are pretty boys
put together to make some dough. They play guitar like amatures.

Where are the groups that'll mean something 5 years down the road,
Like Queen,U2,Springsteen,Red Hot Chillipeppers,Led Zep,Stones,Yes.
Dave Mathews Band.
Marvelous 3 were Southgang in the 70's a LA hairband,Lit was a glam
band, then they see the trends & change their sound.
I'm glad you enjoy new music but I'm saying is they all have no identity
they are interchangable.

Robert if you think these bands all sound the same then you have a problem with your ears. They all fit the same genre but there is a lot of scope in rock for bands with great melodic pop/rock songs.
The only criticism of the bands mention in this thread that I have is that Neve's album (which I do like) is pretty much the same structure on every track.
Same riff same drum pattern. The songs are good but they need some variation.
Tsar, SR71 and MArvelous 3 are the best of an excellent bunch for me.
