REO/STYX LIVE CD

I just picked up the new combo REO/STYX Live CD.
I just listened one time & it has some good moments but for some
stupid reason they included Blue Collar Man & Roll with the Changes,.
where both bands play it together on both CD's & they are identical.
As well as another version of Blue Collar Man by Styx alone & Roll
with the Changes done by REO alone.

What a concept? Three Blue Collar Man, & 3 RWTC.
Couldnt they pick other songs to Jam On.

Just letting you know in case one other person buys a copy.

It's funny cuz Tommy wanted to bail on Styx during the recording of BNW when Dennis could'nt commit to a tour after the completion of the album. Word had it he was gonna devote his time back to Damn Yankees. But after Dennis had persauded Tommy to finish the album which he did seperately with J.Y. he just totally took control in not only making Lawrence Gowan a replacement but now a full-time member! I guess since Damn Yankees lost there record deal with Portrait/Sony he knew Styx was his only cash cow.

But I'll give them credit for the marketing concept.

RE: REO/STYX LIVE CD

In addition did'nt Styx release a live cd a couple of years ago? Now i know this one has the new line-up and they do sound good but without Dennis Deyoung this isn't Styx to me. Blue Collar Man and Renegade were givens, they had to be included. Heck also Too Much Time. But why did'nt Tommy Shaw put Everything Is Cool instead of Fooling Yourself. Man i would've killed to hear a live version of Man In The Wilderness on this also. I know they had to put some Dennis era songs on here but thank God it was only two! Even though Gowan jams and has great stage presence he doesn't sing the songs well. (the intro to Lady was cool though) He does have a great voice i must admit but it doesn't fit well to me on this disc. Brave New World ,Edge Of The Century(where was the "Roboto" insert in the middle?) and Heavy Water(cool intro to "Put Me On") were absolutely awesome! In addition Todd Suchermanin in my opinion has got to be one of the best drummers(live and recorded) out there! I'm a big Styx fan but I liked Reo Speedwagon's disc better. Kevin maybe gettin older and his singing isn't as strong as it used to be but he delivered the songs flawlessly. I wish i would've seen this concert but since Survivor was'nt on the bill and i saw Styx in 99' by themselves i passed. Overall a nice addition to my collection. Two of melodic rocks best on one cd! Gotta love it!

Steve

Not much of a difference though. While redundant, it does make sense, in a way. I like having the two jam songs together. Basically, it's either split them, put them on one CD or the other, or double them, and the later solves the problem of who gets to produce the tracks. :-)

I like it. REO were way overdue for a live album with this lineup. And Styx, I like having a recording of Lawrence Gowan singing "Lady" and "Grand Illusion". Plus, well, it sounds really good. This linup is awesome.
